Immunizations and Health Screening

Current and newly admitted Touro University PA Program students must meet the current Center for Disease Control (CDC) health professionals’ recommendations, for the minimum immunization and health screening of students. Students are required to provide proof of immunizations and health screening which meet these minimums. In addition, students should be aware that clinical sites may have additional immunization and health screening requirements which must be met prior to clinical placement.

Students born on or after January 1, 1957, must demonstrate proof of immunization to measles, mumps, and rubella. Students must submit acceptable medical proof of immunization. Forms are available with registration materials or from the Registrar’s Office. Students who fail to provide the required proof of immunization will not be permitted to register or to attend classes until a properly completed form has been submitted to the Office of the Registrar.

Documentation must be provided that a student is in good health and poses no danger to students or patients. This is to be recorded on a standard immunization form provided by the PA Program.

Required Immunizations

1. Laboratory test results: PPD Mantoux (within one year of entrance to the program). If PPD is positive, chest x-ray or QuantiFERON –Gold and record of results, place and date of examination are required.
2. Immunization required:
   1. Tetanus/diphtheria 1-time dose (Tdap) Toxoid within the past ten (10) years
   2. Poliomyelitis - vaccine or titer
   3. COVID-19 vaccine and booster (if available)
   4. Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine and titer indicating immunity (titers for Clinical Year)

If the test indicates that you are not immune to Varicella, Measles, Mumps or Rubella, you must be vaccinated. Submit proof of immunization (with the vaccination date and titer value) to the program. Documentation of immunization or prior illness is not acceptable.

Recommended Immunizations

3. Hepatitis B vaccine series, or titer indicating immunity. Information about prevention of Hepatitis B is provided to students by the school.
4. Affiliated hospitals may require Hepatitis B titer values printed on official laboratory letterhead as per hospital policy.
5. Copy of Meningococcal vaccine or waiver

Note: Clinical sites may request additional requirements that may require additional fees, for example:

• Stool for enteric pathogens may be required prior to clinical training in a newborn nursery
• Level II Fingerprinting
• Background Check
• 12-panel drug screen
• Coronavirus Testing

The Touro PA Program maintains only immunizations, Tuberculosis screening results and HEPA fit testing results. All other results are not maintained by the Program. It is the student’s responsibility to check in EXXAT and complete those specific additional rotation requirements. In some instances, a third-party vendor may be involved to issue clearances for a clinical site.
